Michael Baisden Says Farewell To His Syndicated Radio Show

Michael Baisden posted this for his fans:

To My Radio Family: The Michael Baisden Show Has Officially Been Cancelled!

We were unable to reach an agreement with our syndication partner Cumulus Media. This was not a hostile situation, sometimes parties have different ideas and visions about how to move forward. So, there is no need for petitions and boycotts.

My only issue was that after 10 years or discussing important issues like domestic violence, missing children, leading civil rights marches like The Jena 6, campaigning for mentoring programs on a 70 city bus tour and donating 350,000 of my own money, helping to elect and re-elect our President, and standing up to lead the rally for justice for Trayvon Martin, that I would at least be allowed to finish the show through next Friday. Now that’s some Fragernackle bull!

I was excited about next week’s interviews with our affiliate program directors and general managers, celebrities, B Side artist, Rev Sharpton, Congressman John Lewis, Iyanla Vanzants, The President and First Lady, and most importantly, you, our radio family.

Unfortunately, that did not happen so you will hear reruns through next Friday. Then beginning on April 1st, there will be another show on the air. To the owners of Cumulus I offer you this quote:

“How someone treats you is their Karma, how you respond is yours.” . ~Wayne Dyer

So, my Karma inspires me to say this, “Thank you to all my advertisers, my affiliates, and my listeners. I will keep the positivity flowing on Facebook and Twitter until my return, because I will be back!

And next time their will be no middlemen between me, my affiliates, and most importantly, my radio family. The next chapter has already begun and it’s going to bright for everyone involved!

We may not have been given the chance to have a going away party, but the welcome back party is going to be “THE BOMB! ~ Michael Baisden

P.S. I will post this once a day until the show ends next Friday March 29th, to remind everyone about the truth of what really happened with my show. Radio will only thrive when there is true competition and not a handful of broadcasters dictating what you hear on the radio. So, to all you DJ’s you better step your game up because Michael, Uncle George, and Juan D are coming back—In the MORNINGS OR AFTERNOONS!!!!!!! THAT’S RIGHT, I SAID IT!

It’s Not About The Job It’s About The Journey (Yes, I’m leaving radio)

Who would have ever thought that a black man from the South Side of Chicago, with no college degree, no formal training in radio, TV, or writing, and the youngest son to a single 17 year-old teenaged mother with three children, would one day lead civil rights protest and help to elect the first black President. Life is truly amazing!

I am proud of what I have accomplished with my life and look forward to what is to come next. Life is full of new beginnings, whether it’s a new relationship or a new business venture; change is the one constant…and we must learn to embrace it.

For years I’ve encouraged you to step out on faith to live your dream, to never compromise your principles, and most importantly, not to be afraid to try something new, but above all else, dare to be different. Well, it’s time for me to practice what I preach!

When I began writing books in 1993, my only goal was to have a positive impact and challenge people to think outside the box. In 1995 I took that leap of faith and left my job with a four-year-old child to support, three thousand dollars in my pocket, and a dream. And as strange as this may sound, there was never a doubt in my mind that I would make it.

Call it cockiness or confidence, but I was determined that no force on earth was going to stop me from realizing my dreams. And after five best selling books, two stage plays, two televisions shows, three DVDs, and one of the most successful radio programs in history, I’m just getting started!

No, it was not my intention to leave radio, I had plans for The Michael Baisden Live Tour, my 10-year anniversary party in DC in July, and I was looking forward to being on the air this summer to get justice for Trayvon Martin and his family.

But sometimes fate, the universe, God, or however you want to label that undeniable force, has it’s own plans. Someone once told me that the greatest experiences in life are unplanned ones. I guess I’m about to test that theory.

The details about what happened are not important, what is important is that we stay connected. I will continue to say good morning and good night and post encouraging comments on Baisden Live on Facebook and Twitter daily, along with those breath-taking pictures. I hope you won’t get tired of reading my post now that I’ll have more time on my hands. lol

It’s been my honor and privilege to serve you everyday for the past 10 years from 3pm-7pm ET. No man on earth has more to be thankful for than me. Your support made it possible for me to take care of my family, invest in the community, and help inspire thousands of people to live their dreams. What’s bigger than that?

But before you go getting all mushy on me, this is not the end…it truly is the beginning, or as I like to say, it’s the next chapter.

I have already begun reaching out to leaders in the community to start building more mentoring programs and creating organizations that will allow us to network so that we’re prepared for the next Jena 6 and the next Trayvon Martin, because there will be a next. Just because the mic goes silent doesn’t mean I will.

There’s an old saying that a man’s true character comes to the surface during times of adversity. Every stage of my career has been difficult, that’s the price you pay for standing by your principles and doing things the right way. I may not have the same paycheck come April 1st, but I will be able to look at the man in the mirror and be proud of the reflection that’s looking back at him, and that’s what being a real man or woman is all about, you must stand for something!

Although you may not hear my voice every day we can still stay connected. Make sure to join me on Baisden Live on Twitter and Facebook. We can’t blame, ”The Man” for our problems when we won’t even join a free website to communicate with one another to find out what’s going on.

The lights go out on Friday March 29th, so I’ll see you on the radio at 3pm ET tomorrow and every day until then to celebrate what “WE” have accomplished! And if there’s one thing I know how to do it’s throw a great Old School Party!

michelle says:

I first heard about the Trayvon Martin case on your radio broadcast. Stay strong. Be proud of who you are.

rowin says:

This is insane seeing those posts about “I know there will be bigger things for you.” it shows how much people can be conditioned by media that’s just thrown paerson/host out to them, every time some1 like a baisden or a joyner, harvey loses a station or even gets cut off radio completely. people say “he was informative.” jokes, jive ass, boogie. informative? that is what 21st century communication pimping itself as black radio, black entertainment in general is today, and sadly is excepted by too many in america’s black communities, I will be glad if one day black folk actually question their options when it comes to radio, tv etc instead of just taking and being conditioned to what is given to to them by some1 who only does it to misinform and dumb you down and keeps you conditioned to stay in the dark.

Tim E says:

The only thing I can say is we all know what it was really all about. And I know with all my heart; Michael will be back on the the air with his brand new radio show. Doing it his way.

I’m so disappointed to hear about what happened to your show. I have been missing you and Uncle George for these last few months as my ride home from work has not been the same. It’s a shame that they would do this to you and your show, because YOU were the one that have kept the African American community informed of what’s going on in our community; but it seems like that don’t want you “informing” us anymore so we can take a stance and let our voices be heard. I know YOU and your show will be BACK and when you do, I will be listening and supporting.

Missing you in DC!

When I got in my car, I was shocked I could not find you on the radio anywhere!!! I got scared, I thought something had happened to you. I am so happy to know that you are okay and I will be looking forward to your return. I WILL NOT BE LISTENING to radio until you return. You have done a lot of great things for us as a people and community. You have reached out to so many people and offered help to them in more ways than you will ever know. I just want to acknowledge you and commend you on having one of the best radio shows EVER. Hi George and Juan D, I love you guys too.

MLUV says:

Thank You Michael, George, and Juan. A great example you have been to so many. Encouraging and Inspirational. I too have stepped out on faith and principle to pursue my next chapter. I wake up everyday ready to engage and do it MY way. Its a beautiful thang. LOL. Keep on pushin and lovin and livin life on your terms. This is the way of today… long gone the good ole job and working for someone else. Today we must take charge of our life, create new paths, and blaze new trails.
Congratulations on your new journey. I am anxious to see what is the next step for you.

T says:

Missing y’all already in New Orleans. The show that now in your slot is WACK…definitely not for the grown and sexy… Housewives of Atl. bull on Monday. After the positive black personalities, news, topics your show presented, the new show should be ashamed for their content. We already have enough kiddy radio in New Orleans. We don’t need Step n Fetch. You need not give details on the split with Cumulus. We can read between the lines. Thanks for being a bully pulpit for not only blacks causes ( I’m sure that is at the heart of this), but for righteous causes. Stay strong and positive. You did nothing wrong and all thing happen for a reason. I know we will hear from you again.

LeVonia Gourgue says:

I second your comment!!! I’m in DC and the new show in his slot is horrible!!!! Cumulus should be ASHAMED of themselves…but “what goes around, comes around”..karma is not fun!!!

Tyrone says:

Michael Baisden to me was and is an inspiration to everybody who tuned in everyday. The powers that be only want clowns and buffoons on the air keeping up mess and pulling one another down . I tuned in everyday to be informed and I have always enjoyed the show. I don’t even know this lame dude Skip Murphy. He is lame and controllable, and that’s what they want. Mike, you’ll get your chance to shine again and in a bigger way. ONE.

J. Gasque says:

For every door that man closes, GOD opens many more. Stay strong, keep the faith because this is just a time of rest and preparation for what GOD is about to do in your life.

Michael B, my sister and I met you years ago at the Essence Music Fest in New Orleans. You and another young man had a table set up pushing both your book and his. I remember how you were such a good sales man, but was also trying to show the other young guy how to sale. Over the years I have watched and followed you on your journey to success . I was a little shock when I heard about your radio show, but all I can say is get ready Michael, get ready fans, something wonderful is about to happen!

LaJuan Watson says:

Mr. Baisden & Crew,

I am truly honored to have had u, Uncle George, Juan D, et al as a part of my life everyday since my return home to DC in Dec 2005. I’ve listened to the MBS on WHUR since then (& whatever radio stations in Baton Rouge & NO, LA when I return there for visits). When I wasn’t listening to the show on the radio, I listened online. My (almost 8 y/o) son has grown to love the show as well. He didn’t have a choice b/c he, too, listens in MY car on the way home.

Words will NEVER be able to express my gratitude to & for you & the crew. Y’all have shown (Black) America the positivities of “1 nation, 1 station” & what can be accomplished via unity…no matter one’s race, creed, color, nationality, &/or sexual orientation. You have given us the channels to express our thoughts & feelings; you’ve healed (or at least started the healing process) of so many children, adults, & families; you’ve given us infinite laughs (esp. the spanking show!) & more information for a healthier living & lifestyle. For the aforementioned & so much more you’ve done, my son & I say, “Thank you & best wishes in your future endeavors,” to you ALL!!!

I hope & pray to someday personally meet you, Mr. Baisden. Job well done for you being the MAN you are! I am very PROUD of you, Michael Baisden!!!

Love always,
LaJuan & “Son-son” Watson

Damn it! Michael, it was truly a pleasure following you on Kiss 107.1 in Saginaw Michigan untiI I terminated myself Dec. 21st 2013. Your voice will truly be missed for many reasons. You may not have been local but you gave people what they wanted. Music, entertainment and especially GOOD INFORMATION. It is my belief THEY want to suppress not only your voice but all concerned Black voices in our struggle for equality.

Thanks again Michael
