The series premier of ‘The New Edition Story’ on BET, took the top spot three nights in a row. The first episode of the three part series, dominated cable viewers with a 1.9 rating in adults 18-49 with 4.2 million viewers, that debut gave BET its highest-rated premier in five years.
“THE NEW EDITION STORY” (Part One) also dominated the social-sphere as BET ranked as the #1 most social network on television** on Tuesday, January 24th. The special was the #1 most social episode on both Facebook and Twitter, outranking all other TV programs including cable, syndication and sports. Across social platforms, 2.2 million people generated nearly 1 million interactions. On Twitter, BET and “THE NEW EDITION STORY” drove 12 of the top 20 trending topics of the night including #Betamax, #BobbyBrown, #CandyGirl, #MikeBivins, and #LukeJames. Interactions peaked during the live 10:30pm – 10:44pm window, as viewers applauded the transition of the band from boys to men.
In its second of three episodes, BET’s “The New Edition Story” continued to dominate over the rest of the cable programs, scoring the top spot in Wednesday’s ratings. Coming off of its previous 1.9, the series took a small hit in its second night, falling one-tenth to a 1.8 in adults 18-49 with 3.96 million viewers.
With its third and final episode, BET’s “The New Edition Story” continued to land on top in the cable ratings, scoring a 1.9 in adults 18-49 Thursday night. That’s one-tenth higher than its previous 1.8, with 4.23 million viewers tuning in.
