Statement from Rick Ross
MIAMI, April 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — In responseto the continuing controversy over some recent lyrics of his, recording artist Rick Ross issued the following statement today:
“Before I am an artist, I am a father, a son, and a brother to some of the most cherished women in the world. So for me to suggest in any way that harm and violation be brought to a woman is one of my biggest mistakes and regrets. As an artist, one of the most liberating things is being able to paint pictures with my words. But with that comes a great responsibility. And most recently, my choice of words was not only offensive, it does not reflect my true heart. And for this, I apologize. To every woman that has felt the sting of abuse, I apologize. I recognize that as an artist I have a voice and with that, the power of influence. To the young men who listen to my music, please know that using a substance to rob a woman of her right to make a choice is not only a crime, it’s wrong and I do not encourage it. To my fans, I also apologize if I have disappointed you. I can only hope that this sparks a healthy dialogue and that I can contribute to it.”

Rozay’s next album will tell if this apology reflects a real change of heart. Anyone can put out a heart-warming apology.
Believe me, I hope he changes to respect women. But I don’t want to believe he is a champion for women because of this single apology.
Agreed. Time will tell. Here’s hoping that this fat lump of dumbfuckness can turn it around.
I think that it is good that Rick Ross has decided to take responsibility for his lyrics. But his apology comes just a little too late for me. But as long as there are young men who view women in this manner, and as long as we have a generation of young women who buy into negative words of men i.e. refering to them selves as “bitches” or their girlfriends as their “bitch” or their ” bitches”, records of any musical genre will continue to be written, produced, recorded and released. We need to teach all artists to be responsible for all the music on the records they put out.
